Benefits 2018

Practical considerations for plan sponsors as they develop policies and coverage of medical cannabis will be presented by Mike Sullivan, CEO & Co-Founder of Cubic Health, at the ‘Benefits 2018’ event. Regardless of the plan sponsor’s view on medical cannabis, evolving clinical treatment guidelines and expanding clinical trials globally will continue to enhance both demand for, and acceptance of, cannabinoids as a treatment option in specific conditions when established treatments have failed. Sullivan will share examples of how plans with varying degrees of financial means and safety sensitivity have been approaching medical cannabis.

Helping workers impacted by mental illness in a helpful and cost-effective way is now a priority in most workplaces. Since the establishment of the ‘National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace’ in 2013, more time, effort, and energy have been put into helping make workplaces psychologically safe and breaking down the stigmas over mental health in the workplace.

Through its mandate to help build sustainable communities, The Co-operators embarked on an enterprise-wide mental health initiative aimed at supporting the mental wellness of its workplace as well as the workplaces of its group benefit clients. Because of this initiative, The Co-operators partnered with WorldCare International, Inc. to research the opportunity for mental health second opinion consultations.

At this session, The Co-operators will provide an update on this study and share additional learnings from its mental health initiatives. The presentation is part of the March 20 event that will look at the primary challenge facing plan sponsors today – benefit plan cost.
